How infrared heating works.........

Infrared warms are homes in the same manner the sun heats the earth.

When infrared rays touch a surface, energy is released in the form of heat. The shorter the wave lengths, the greater the energy content of the radiation. Infrared radiation consists of electromagnetic waves with a length of 0.75 to 1000 m. When infrared rays fall onto a surface, the radiation energy is absorbed by surface atoms irrespective of the air temperature. Infrared radiation is a natural and important source of heat transferal.

The sun produces an enormous amount of energy through nuclear fission. The sun radiates this energy in various wavelengths including the form of ultra-violet rays, visible light and infrared radiation. After a journey through space of approximately 8 minutes at a speed of 1,080,000,000 km/h, the sun’s rays reach the earth’s surface. During the day, the earth’s surface is heated by the infrared part of the sun’s rays. At night, the earth cools off again by releasing the heat in the form of infrared radiation. This is a natural process which is not harmful to humans. In theory, every object with a temperature over the absolute zero point radiates heat rays. The intensity of the radiation increases as the vibration of the atoms in the object increases.

The Infrared heating panels operate in the save and healthy FAR infrared wavelength of around 8-10 Micron also know as biogenetic infrared.

Guide and comparison to running costs

Mainstream heating in the UK and Northern Europe is based on either gas or oil and to a lesser degree, low tariff electric storage heating. Over the last few years, oil and gas has become prohibitively expensive, this has lead people to search for cheaper options. Out of the 3 present options, electric storage heaters offer the lowest running costs, but has major shortfalls when it comes to a reliable heating system.

1: Electric storage heaters operate on low tariff which charges them up at night time, so they can release heat during the daylight hours, yet it is the evening that most people want heat and this is the very time the heating charge is at its lowest, sometimes even run out. To ensure enough heat, that in theory lasts 17 hours, storage heaters actually use a lot of electricity, normally between 2500-3500 watts per hour - You might be paying less for the off-peak electricity but you are using considerably more than is actually needed in order to keep your house warm. A 3000 watt (3.0kW) storage heater actually uses a massive 21,000 watts (21 kW or units) every night!

2: Storage heaters must charge prior to giving out any heat, this can often leave people in the cold especially during the summer months when then heating is turned off, but a cool rainy day happens. Without charge in the heater people are forced to use alternative, expensive to run heating as a temporary solution.

Yet having taken in to account all the above, night storage heaters are the cheapest to run heating system to run out of the top three...... until now. So we will use them as an example in our price comparison.

Our infrared heating systems work on demand, when and where you want them. The are controlled constantly by wireless room thermostats, that continually communicate with each other, regulating the temperature to your perfect preset settings room by room. They will close down one or more heating units to keep power consumption to the minimum, yet maintaining your required settings. As infrared waves only heat solid objects not wasting energy on air convection, which is a continual cycle reheating, your room environment becomes stable in temperature at the lowest energy costs.

Savings made by comparison to the existing lowest form of heating, Low Tariff Storage Heaters can be as much as £140 per month (€182 euros) adding up to £560 (€728 euro) per quarter.

Example is based on the graph below.

In the house with low tariff storage heating, we have used a conventional layout in an average 3 bedroom home. Please note: These figures don't include for any additional heating that maybe used for reasons mentioned above.

In our Infrared house we have based the heater sizes on a typical layout for overall heating

As Infrared give on-demand heat we are able to independently operate each room with temperature and the time they operate. This means we don’t have to heat rooms to the same degree that are not in use hence the operating time varies per room.
